AI features in more browsers: Edge on Linux, Brave, Arc & Firefox

Use AI summaries, AI chat and AI flashcards even when your browser has no built-in AI model. Today they only run where the browser ships one on your device: Chrome, or Microsoft Edge on Windows and macOS.
What this would unlock
- AI summaries and AI flashcards on Microsoft Edge for Linux, where Microsoft does not ship the on-device model
- AI chat and summaries in Brave, Arc, Vivaldi, Opera and Firefox, which have no built-in AI model yet
- A clear message when your browser can't run the AI, instead of waiting on “Setting up AI…” forever
- Keep the privacy promise: your pages, highlights and notes stay on your device

Where this stands today: the AI runs on the model built into your browser, not on a Web Highlights server — that is what keeps your pages and notes on your own device. Chrome ships its model on Windows, macOS and Linux. Microsoft ships Edge's only on Windows and macOS, and Brave, Arc, Vivaldi, Opera and Firefox don't ship one yet. So on Linux the working setup right now is Chrome, either as your main browser or just for the AI features in the web app. Votes here tell me which browsers matter most to you.
Small step while the votes come in: there is now an AI limitations page listing exactly which browsers and operating systems can run the AI, so you can check yours instead of waiting on a spinner. Microsoft ships Edge’s model only for Windows and macOS, so on Linux the AI cannot run in Edge — Chrome is the way there for now.
