Suppose you also have a published side project or write articles. You will surely be familiar with the daily\n  addiction to view the statistics of your articles or projects. That demotivated me,\n  mainly because there were even days when I lost users. I always focused\n  on building a product that helps students, researchers, and everyone else to organize their internet research in a\n  better-organized way.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  Web Highlights is still far from perfect, but it can keep up with all my competitors. Many users would say that my web\n  highlighter extension is much better, and the Chrome Web Store reviews agree. But that’s  not the point here — The\n  fact is that my extension currently has around 6,000 active users. Some of my competitors have more than 700,000\n  users.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  \u003Cstrong>\n    \u003Cem>So, what differentiates my extension from a similar highlighter extension with close to a billion users?\u003C\u002Fem>\n  \u003C\u002Fstrong>\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  \u003Cem>The answer is — \u003C\u002Fem>\n  \u003Cstrong>\u003Cem>Marketing\u003C\u002Fem>\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n  \u003Cem>and\u003C\u002Fem>\n  \u003Cstrong>\u003Cem>SEO\u003C\u002Fem>\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n  \u003Cem>.\u003C\u002Fem>\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  I read\n  \u003Ca\n    href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedium.com\u002Fgeekculture\u002Fwhat-i-have-learned-from-2-years-of-building-software-side-hustles-eb634acadeb5\"\n  >\n    this article\n  \u003C\u002Fa>\n  on Medium from\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedium.com\u002Fu\u002Fad08aca60f7d\">George Field\u003C\u002Fa>\n  two months ago. I left a private note and asked whether he had some tips on how to scale and market my extension.\n  George took a lot of time to give me very insightful tips, and we had a call for about one hour. I find it amazing that strangers worldwide take so much time to help others.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  Here are the points I took away from our conversation that are the reason for the increase in user growth over the\n  last two months.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3 id=\"hosting-a-blog-on-your-website\">Hosting a Blog on your Website\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>\n  If I had to settle, I would say that hosting a blog on\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fweb-highlights.com\" rel=\"noopener\">Web Highlights\u003C\u002Fa>\n  was the essential point for new user growth.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  Without organic keywords on your website, SEO is not possible. Keywords tell search engines what your page is about so\n  they can show relevant content to the searcher. Having\n  \u003Cstrong>organic keywords\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n  on your website is key to getting more organic traffic.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  Organic traffic is also why I publish this article on\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedium.com\u002F@mariusbongarts\">Medium\u003C\u002Fa>\n  and my\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fweb-highlights.com\u002Fblog\u002F\" rel=\"noopener\">Web Highlights Blog\u003C\u002Fa>\n  . Before I hosted the blog, there were only a few keywords on my site. My landing page contained a few sentences that\n  offered a small number of keywords. By that, the page was at least visible in Google Search at all.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fahrefs.com\u002F\" rel=\"noopener\">Ahrefs\u003C\u002Fa>\n  is an excellent tool for analyzing the organic traffic of your page. It takes all the keywords for which your page\n  ranks in the top 100 organic search results. You\n  can see that hosting a blog has had an incredible impact.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  In just two months, the organic traffic increased from 20 to 212. Notice that the organic traffic per month value is\n  only an\n  \u003Cstrong>estimation\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n  . Here we can see how much traffic is really\n  coming from organic search traffic in the last 28 days. With 463 clicks in 28 days, Web Highlights generates even more\n  organic clicks than Ahref estimated.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Chr \u002F>\n\u003Cp>Ahrefs can also group keywords by top positions. It differentiates between three keyword groups:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cul>\n  \u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>low-ranked (11+)\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fli>\n  \u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>middle-ranked (4–10)\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fli>\n  \u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>high-ranked (1–3)\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\n\u003Cp>\n  This means that if Web Highlights has a high-ranked keyword like “web-highlighter,” it will appear in the first three\n  search results.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Here is a chart that demonstrates even better which impact the blog hosting had:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cfigure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card kg-card-hascaption\">\n  \u003Cimg\n    src=\"https:\u002F\u002Fcdn-images-1.medium.com\u002Fmax\u002F1600\u002F1*9Yl4voeh-LQL5mGXr7xq4A.png\"\n    class=\"kg-image\"\n    alt=\"Organic keywords by top position\"\n    loading=\"lazy\"\n  \u002F>\n  \u003Cfigcaption>Organic keywords by top position\u003C\u002Ffigcaption>\n\u003C\u002Ffigure>\n\u003Cp>\n  Before publishing the blog, Web Highlights had around 30 low-ranked, one middle-ranked, and no high-ranked keywords.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  Today, there are\n  \u003Cstrong>140 low-ranked\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n  ,\n  \u003Cstrong>30 middle-ranked\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n  , and even\n  \u003Cstrong>one high-ranked keyword\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n  .\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3 id=\"creating-backlinks\">Creating Backlinks\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>\n  Once you have your website equipped with some keywords, you should focus on another essential metric — \n  \u003Cstrong>backlinks\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n  .\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  A\n  \u003Cstrong>backlink\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n  is just an anchor link from a different site to your site.
