Furthermore, ensure that your Blog is linked on your landing page to give search engines an\n  entry point to your website.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  Use\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fsearch.google.com\u002F\" rel=\"noopener\">Google Search Console\u003C\u002Fa>\n  to analyze traffic or request your Blog's manual indexing. You can also upload a\n  \u003Cem>sitemap.xml\u003C\u002Fem>\n  to ensure that Google will find your website.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch4 id=\"how-to\">How To\u003C\u002Fh4>\n\u003Cp>\n  If you've decided to host your own Blog, there are thousands of options. You can host it on any content management\n  system (CMS) of your choice. The most famous examples are probably WordPress, Drupal, or Joomla. Those are perfect for\n  getting your Blog up and running fast without any developer skills.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  But, if you are a developer like me, it makes sense to self-host your Blog. I decided to go for\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fghost.org\u002F\" rel=\"noopener\">\u003Cstrong>Ghost\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fa>\n  .\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cblockquote>\n  \u003Cem>\n    Ghost is a powerful app for new-media creators to publish, share, and grow a business around their content. I created a digital ocean droplet and set up Ghost on it. This is easy, as Ghost and Digital Ocean provide\n  excellent\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fghost.org\u002Fdocs\u002Finstall\u002Fdigitalocean\u002F\" rel=\"noopener\">getting-started articles\u003C\u002Fa>\n  and\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmarketplace.digitalocean.com\u002Fapps\u002Fghost\" rel=\"noopener\">documentation\u003C\u002Fa>\n  .\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  Afterward, I configured my Nginx to serve the Ghost CMS from a subfolder of my website:\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fweb-highlights.com\u002Fblog\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">web-highlights.com\u002Fblog\u003C\u002Fa>\n  .\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3 id=\"2-improve-performance-accessibility-best-practices-and-seo-score\">\n  2. Improve Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices, and SEO score\n\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>\n  It makes sense for Google to rank websites with overall good performance and excellent user experience higher than\n  pages that take 10 seconds to load.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cblockquote class=\"kg-blockquote-alt\">\n  “Google wants to keep poor-quality, untrustworthy sites out of the search results” — Adam Clarke\n\u003C\u002Fblockquote>\n\u003Cp>\n  Therefore, one of the most efficient things you can do is to fix all the problems on your website. Ensure your site is\n  fast-loading, accessible, responsive, SSL encrypted, and following best practices.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  Especially responsiveness is key. Today, a website that is not optimized for mobile devices has no chance against its\n  competitors as Google will predominantly use the mobile version of the content for indexing and ranking.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cblockquote>\n  “Since the majority of users now access Google via a mobile device, the index will primarily use the mobile version of\n  a page’s content going forward”. — Adam Clarme\n\u003C\u002Fblockquote>\n\u003Cp>Luckily, there are great tools that can help us to achieve al those things.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch4 id=\"how-to-1\">How To\u003C\u002Fh4>\n\u003Cp>\n  The first thing you should do is resolve as many issues as possible on your website. You can do this easily with\n  Lighthouse.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Lighthouse\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Go to your website and open the Chrome Developer tools. Here are three ways to open the Developer Tools:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cul>\n  \u003Cli>Click the dots menu in the upper right corner -> Select More Tools -> Developer Tools\u003C\u002Fli>\n  \u003Cli>Right click -> Select inspect\u003C\u002Fli>\n  \u003Cli>\n    Use\n    \u003Cstrong>Option + ⌘ + J\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n    or\n    \u003Cstrong>Option + ⌘ + I\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n    (on macOS), or Shift + CTRL + J (on Windows\u002FLinux).\n  \u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\n\u003Cp>Then choose Lighthouse in the tabs, and this window should open:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cfigure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card kg-card-hascaption\">\n  \u003Cimg\n    src=\"https:\u002F\u002Fcdn-images-1.medium.com\u002Fmax\u002F1600\u002F1*ygMNLZcqGbvjxsNVs6I90w.png\"\n    class=\"kg-image\"\n    alt=\"Using Lighthouse in Chrome\"\n    loading=\"lazy\"\n  \u002F>\n  \u003Cfigcaption>Using Lighthouse in Chrome\u003C\u002Ffigcaption>\n\u003C\u002Ffigure>\n\u003Cp>\n  Then you can click \"Analyze page load,\" and Lighthouse will run a report on your website. Lighthouse will give you a detailed\n  overview of your issues and also instructions on how to resolve them.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  For example, you want to ensure that all images contain an accessible\n  \u003Ccode>alt\u003C\u002Fcode>\n  attribute. This enables search engines to access your images as well. But, most importantly, it makes your website\n  accessible for people with disabilities by using tools like screen readers.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cblockquote class=\"kg-blockquote-alt\">\n  Perhaps the most important reason to use the\n  \u003Ccode>alt\u003C\u002Fcode>\n  tag is to support accessibility —\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fdeveloper.mozilla.org\u002Fen-US\u002Fdocs\u002FWeb\u002FAPI\u002FHTMLImageElement\u002Falt\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">MDN\u003C\u002Fa>\n\u003C\u002Fblockquote>\n\u003Cp>\n  Fulfilling all accessibility standards for your website will bring many benefits for everyone, and as a side effect,\n  you will be ranked higher by Google.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>PageSpeed Insights\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  Another tool you can use is\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fpagespeed.web.dev\u002F\" rel=\"noopener\">PageSpeed Insights\u003C\u002Fa>\n  from Google. You can enter the URL of your website, and it generates a similar report of your website as Lighthouse\n  does. I would recommend using Lighthouse as its report is more detailed.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  A great and free alternative to test more than one page at a time is the\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.experte.com\u002Fpagespeed\" rel=\"noopener\">EXPERTE.com Bulk Page Speed Test\u003C\u002Fa>\n  . This tool allows you to test hundreds of URLs automatically.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3 id=\"3-creating-backlinks\">3. Creating Backlinks\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>\n  Once your website is equipped with some keywords and has fixed most Lighthouse issues, you should focus on getting\n  \u003Cstrong>backlinks\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n  .\n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\n  A\n  \u003Cstrong>backlink\u003C\u002Fstrong>\n  is just an anchor link from a different site to your site.
